Terms

Terms of use

These are the terms for using WITHSTAND. They are written plainly on purpose, and they describe the service as it works today.

Who may use WITHSTAND

You must be 18 or older. You confirm your age when you create an account; the confirmation is self-attested and is not verified. An account credibly belonging to a minor is suspended pending review.

Use one account, for yourself. Do not create an account for another person, and do not create a second account to get around a block or a restriction.

What WITHSTAND provides

WITHSTAND provides structured peer presence. It is not medical care, therapy, professional counseling, addiction treatment, or an emergency response service. It does not monitor crisis status and does not dispatch emergency services.

A session lasts five minutes, with one optional five-minute extension. Peers are other members, not staff and not professionals, and nothing in a session is clinical advice.

Personal Circle

An active Plus member can invite up to five trusted people to a Personal Circle. An invitation is shared outside WITHSTAND and becomes a connection only after the invited person accepts. A Circle member can join and respond without buying Plus.

Each person chooses one display name for that relationship, and the name cannot later be edited. Personal Circle has no chat, direct messages, public profiles, photos, or links; it carries structured requests and the same constrained session signals used elsewhere in WITHSTAND. A member can mute requests, end the relationship, or block the other member.

What you agree to when you offer presence

Before your first turn as a peer you acknowledge a short guide, and these terms hold you to it. Stay present for the agreed time, use only the signals the app provides, follow the safe action the other member chose, and step away safely if you become triggered yourself.

Do not:

  • diagnose, or give medical, financial, legal, or religious directives;
  • shame, pressure, or threaten another member;
  • ask for identifying details, or try to exchange contact information;
  • claim professional qualifications you are being trusted for;
  • promise to be available in future, or seek an exclusive arrangement with a peer;
  • continue a session when you are not steady enough to be in one.

Prohibited use

  • trying to identify, locate, or contact another member outside a session;
  • harassment, including repeated or rapid signalling meant to disturb someone;
  • automating the app, scripting requests, or joining the queue without engaging;
  • sending data the app does not offer as a signal, or tampering with the client;
  • advertising, recruiting, soliciting, or research without written permission;
  • using WITHSTAND to plan or encourage harm to anyone.

Restrictions and suspension

To protect members, an account can be restricted or suspended, automatically on a pattern of abuse or after a human review of a report. Automatic restrictions are reversible and recorded. A restriction never removes your access to your own plan, your check-ins, or immediate help.

A reviewer sees the evidence listed on the safety page, and cannot see your Recovery Plan or your check-ins.

What is not promised

WITHSTAND is provided as it is. There is no promise that a peer will be available when you ask, that a session will help, or that the service will run without interruption. Peer sessions run during limited pilot hours, and those hours, the supported countries, and the supported languages can change.

When no peer accepts, the app tells you so rather than implying that someone is coming.

Price and subscriptions

Core peer support remains free and the app shows no advertising. Reaching an anonymous peer, being there for someone, opening your Plan when an urge comes, extending a session, keeping a private journal, seeing your walk, reporting, blocking, immediate help, and account deletion are not placed behind a payment.

Plus is ¥500 per month or ¥5,000 per year in the Japan storefront and adds Personal Circle and writing your own Plan. Supporter is ¥300 per month in the Japan storefront and supports the service; it does not include Plus features. The App Store shows the final localized price, renewal period, and eligibility before purchase.

Plus and Supporter are separate, automatically renewing App Store subscriptions. Eligible new subscribers to Plus Monthly may receive a one-week free trial. Unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial or current billing period ends, the subscription renews and Apple charges the payment method associated with the App Store account. A trial converts to the monthly subscription shown by the App Store.

Purchases and cancellations are handled by the App Store, not this website. You can manage a subscription from the membership screen in the app or from your Apple account subscription settings. Deleting a WITHSTAND account does not cancel an App Store subscription.

Ending your account

You can delete your account from inside the app at any time, without asking anyone and without cancelling anything first. Deleting your account explains what is erased and what is kept.

Access can be ended from our side where a member’s safety requires it, or if the service closes. Records kept for abuse prevention are described on the deletion page.

Changes

When these terms change in a way that affects you, the app asks you to accept the new version and records which version you accepted.

Law and contact

These terms are governed by the laws of Japan, with the Tokyo District Court as the agreed court of first instance.
